A dragline digs unlike anything else on your farm. The bucket hangs on ropes under a long lattice boom. You cast it out, drag it across the ground towards you, lift it and slew. Sounds easy. It isn't, and that's the whole fun.

Built to the real factory dimensions

We rebuilt the machine from the Series-1 product guide: a 140 ft lattice boom, live mast, walkways, ladders and an engine room you can walk into. Paint comes in the dealer colours.

Ropes that behave like ropes

Hoist and drag rope are real physics ropes, and the bucket hangs freely on them. It swings, sways after a stop and pulls on the machine. Slew too fast and you'll feel it right away. The crane automatic (Alt + A) keeps the bucket level while you hoist or drag. Digging works with Dig With Anything and TerraFarm.

The ground anchor

Alt + H pins the machine to the ground. Then even a full bucket can't drag you across the pit while you slew. Driving is locked while the anchor holds, Alt + H releases it. The idea came from CFDFF305, one of our Magister members. Thank you!

Tip and go again

Alt + J releases the dump rope, the bucket tips by gravity and empties. After that it relatches on its own. It holds about 9,000 litres, heaped.

Boom

The boom luffs from 4 degrees, almost laid down, up to 47 degrees. Slewing is soft, so the bucket doesn't whip.

Early access means saying honestly what's still missing

• The bucket empties at a relaxed pace, about 6 seconds for 9,000 litres. The first update makes it faster.
• With the boom all the way down, a low outside camera can pass through the lattice. You know that from long booms in the base game.
• Multiplayer isn't enabled yet, the mod is set to single player.
